Current Mental Health – January 2020

I can’t believe that the first month of 2020 is over. It went by so fast!! And I thought last year flew by.

My mental wellness continues, though there were a few days where I was feeling down and thought I was depressed. I then used my light box from 45 to 60 minutes, which helped.

In the past, I never would have signed up for something that takes a year. Or even 12 weeks. Because I used to cancel my plans at the last minute all. The. Time. I’ve taken up knitting, which isn’t going so well, but I’m having fun! The class I signed up for meets once a week for 12 weeks. We are knitting 12 squares, which will then be sewn together to make a blanket. We will begin Square 5 this Wednesday, but I still haven’t finished square 1 lol!

I’m caught up in my crochet class where we’re making 12 squares over 12 months rather than weeks. Just a few years ago, I never would have been able to do this, no thanks to anxiety. But just because I’m better at following through on my plans, doesn’t mean the anxiety is gone.

We had a nice Christmas, which we celebrated the weekend after New Year’s. We drove across the state to visit my in-laws, which included my husband’s brother and his young family. His sister couldn’t make it.

We celebrated New Year’s by falling asleep before midnight lol! We didn’t miss anything, though.

How did you celebrate Christmas and/or New Year’s?

  1. Hi Barb! How are you?
I also slept early on New Year’s eve. We don’t celebrate either of the two festivals. In fact I was working on Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Have been trying to blog regularly since January. Also, trying to build up a new community to connect, share and explore.

    1. Hi, Saumya! I’m well, which I never thought I would say lol! Christmas is a big deal to me, because the whole family gets together. It’s great because we rarely see each other. New Year’s is overrated lol! I’d like to blog more regularly, as well, but it takes so much out of me. For now, anyway.

      1. Yeah, I understand. For us, Diwali is a major thing. Why do you think new year’s is overrated?

        1. There was a local Diwali celebration at the dog rescue where I volunteer. It was a couple of months ago? Really neat. The dog’s foreheads were painted, and they wore garlands of flowers. The group posted pictures on Facebook. As for New Year’s, everyone makes such a big deal out of it. I guess to me, it’s just another day.

          1. Yeah, it was in October. Is the rescue shelter run by Indians? Oh yes, NY is another day for me too 😛

  2. This is really good news:) To reflect how far you have come and what you actually can do and even make plans over weeks is amazing!!! Life is good also right? I guess you have cracked the code somehow…. Im proud and happy for you 🙂

  3. I’m so glad you can follow through with your plans, and that you’re mental health is generally good!
I’m so glad for you, Barb!(also, I just realised how absolutely awesome your name is.)
Keep going, and you got this!
